The medicine's source
Find out who makes and sends the medicine.
The name on a care website may be different from the name of the pharmacy. Ask for the actual maker and sender before comparing the plan.

Use the pharmacy licence search
Pharmacies have a separate licensing body: the state board of pharmacy. To check a pharmacy licence, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) links you to each state's search. FDA oversees drugs in the US.
FDA advises avoiding any online pharmacy whose name does not appear in your state's pharmacy board licence list. Use the FDA link below to find your state's search page. A listing confirms a licence; it does not prove every medicine is being supplied properly.
Most states, as of September 2026, require an outside pharmacy to have a licence or permit before it ships medicine to a patient in that state.

State licence
What the record can tell you
Use the exact pharmacy name to check the state record.
What to ask next
Is this the pharmacy that will make my prescription, and is it the same business that will send it?
Private quality review
What the record can tell you
Accreditation means an outside body has checked how a pharmacy makes medicine against quality standards. It checks the way the pharmacy works. It does not test every batch, meaning each group of medicines made together, or the medicine sent to you.
What to ask next
Accreditation does not take the place of a state licence.
FDA registration
What the record can tell you
A medicine-making facility's FDA registration gives neither product approval nor an endorsement of its care, as of September 2026.
What to ask next
Ask whether a pharmacy or a larger medicine-making facility prepares it, and which record shows its licence or registration.
A logo is a starting point for a question. Use a public record to check the answer.
Ask again if the pharmacy changes
Keep the pharmacy name with your quote. If a later label or message gives a different name, ask which business made the medicine and check that record too.
Ask how to speak with a pharmacist about the exact product. Keep the answer in the same note as the prescriber's details.
A question to keep
Please name the pharmacy that will prepare this medicine, so I can check its record.
